A Fuller Mouth Thanks to the Lip Filler
The lips thin are for many women, but also men, a real aesthetic defect to be corrected. Full and fleshy lips are, in fact, considered by most as an undisputed sign of beauty and sensuality and, probably, precisely for this reason having thin lips is seen as a real imperfection to be eliminated.
The world of medicine and cosmetic surgery offers the possibility to choose between different paths to take to overcome this problem, one of the most requested and widespread is certainly the lip filler.
In aesthetic medicine, fillers are those materials used to fill a specific area. They can have both natural and synthetic origin and are injected into the patient through the use of very thin needles. Specifically, for the lip filler, the injection is carried out inside or along the contour of the labial mucosa.
In the preoperative phase, the surgeon will choose the most suitable filler based on the characteristics of the substance and the patient’s requests, in order to obtain the best result.
Different Types of Fillers
Permanent: They are fillers of strictly synthetic origin that cannot be reabsorbed by the body and therefore lasting over time, but on the other hand this type of filler can cause allergic reactions or side effects even after a long time;
Semi-permanent: These are materials composed of both resorbable and non-absorbable substances, and this type of operations have results with a duration that varies from a minimum of one year to a maximum of three years;
Absorbable or Biological: Among these there are hyaluronic acid and collagen, in this case, the result of the operation has a shorter duration, which varies from a few weeks to six months; at the moment the most used ones because they do not cause side effects and allow to obtain an absolutely natural result.
Once the surgeon has collected and shared all the information with the patient, we proceed with the actual surgery.
It starts with applying an anesthetizing ointment about 30 minutes before the operation, to avoid any kind of discomfort or even minimal pain. The treatment is very quick, lasts about an hour and usually takes place in an outpatient setting.
The injection can take place either linearly, by inserting the needle along the entire area to be filled and, proceeding backwards, by injecting the filler with a single puncture or in a serial manner, then injecting the filler with several punctures.
Instead, some surgeons choose to use a flexible microcannula instead of the needle, making the operation even less traumatic since it is possible to perform the treatment by making two simple holes in the corners of the mouth.
Following the aesthetic treatment, the patient must comply with some prescriptions avoiding: sudden changes in temperature until the swelling disappears, the intake of any anti-inflammatory that is not prescribed by a doctor, alcohol and any type of make-up for the following 12 hours.
After the swelling, after the first 24 / 48h, the results of the treatment are immediately evident and definitive. In some cases, to soothe the sense of discomfort due to swelling, it is possible to use hot compresses or apply cortisone ointments locally.
