ARE TOOL AND DIE MAKERS IN DEMAND

Tool and die makers are in great demand now a days. The reason solely being that the world is moving from primary to secondary sector at a much faster pace now. This automatically generates high demand for these courses.

A tool and die maker is a MACHINIST ,who builds and works with computer or mechanically-controlled machine tools to lay out various designs on metal(as primary raw material) and cut it to produce precise size and shape of the desired metal tools and parts. They are known by various names such as Toolmakers, Die-makers or Fitters. 

They mainly work in manufacturing industries, often as an integral part of the Engineering teams.

This course provides hand-on experience to the students along with theoretical knowledge required for this applied science. It enables the students with necessary skills, so that they become capable of working without any supervision provided by an engineer. Students can design tools of all sorts meant for various industries.

This course is in demand also because of the combination that it provides, of art with science.

The key skills required for this course are a prior understanding of basic mathematics, engineering design, and technology along with the ability to read plans.

The nature Of Job after completion of Tool and Die Course will be to form and deliver designs for new tools and Industrial supplies.

The training provided in this course comprises mainly of on-the-job training which helps in attaining the required mastery for Industrial manufacturing.

The new age machinists must be able to use hand tools and computers with equal ease. They should be able to write CNC programmes. They need to know how to use dies to give shape to new tools. Usage of CAD is another aspect of their job, which they must know how to use to make different products and parts of various machines and tools. Safety standards are so high in these jobs that youngsters are getting attracted to these for their grand pay scales and security at workplace.

 

On the job training, vocational programmes, apprenticeships, and college courses all are various ways through which students can take up this course.

Use of Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machines, reading blueprints of new designs, sketching and moulding are some of the factors that attract youngsters towards choosing this course as their career option. The course is available in both Long-term and Short-term duration models. There are many institutions and organisations which provide this course to their students. The students are given certificates at the end of the course, which help the employers to judge and assess their ability and credibility along with the area of specialisation. Tool and die makers must have stamina as they have to stand and work for long working hours. They are expected to know how to calculate with precision the specifications of the tools and the die. They should value accuracy and focus as performing repetitive tasks may lead to some mistakes.

They have to create new tools and precision parts for manufacturing industries and the demands for these new tools is time-bound and time-specific, thus they need to be alert and focussed for a very long time. 

All the above features of this course clearly justify its high demand   in today’s world. All these challenges and the demands of the job of a tool and die maker makes it so much attractive and the pay band makes it so lucrative that this job is in high demand in national as well as international industrial area.
